With its village like charm Colinton remains one of the Edinburgh’s most well loved neighbourhoods. Applecross’ newly launched development, The Cedars, is located in the heart of this highly sought after conservation area.
The launch of the development comes on the heels of Applecross’ success at the UK industry house building ‘Oscars’ the What House? Awards which saw the company scoop four prestigious awards for its recent developments.
The Cedars features 22 individually designed apartments including four penthouses. They range in size from 2 - 4 bedroom apartments and all have been architecturally designed to maximise their position in terms of interior space, natural light and views, which range from the Pentland Hills to parkland.
The Cedars takes its name from the mature cedar trees that can be seen from the development. Set in just under four acres of grounds with its own discreet entrance the development is very secluded. It is adjacent to the grounds of Merchiston Castle School which is recognised as one of Edinburgh’s most distinguished private schools.
Previously there were eight 1960s prefab homes on the site, which housed the tutors of the nearby school. More recently the houses have been unoccupied.
Designed by architects Yeoman McAllister, The Cedars has a traditional looking exterior with slate pitched roofs, natural Northumbrian lingberry sandstone and timber cladding which blends sympathetically with the architecture of the area. Sitting below the height of the surrounding tree-line, The Cedars occupies its space comfortably. It comprises two buildings, each with three storeys, centred around a courtyard. A young cedar tree planted at its centre creates a welcoming touch for new homebuyers.
Secure underground car parks are accessed via heated ramps, and allow for two parking spaces per apartment, leaving the green and leafy landscape free from parked cars.
Lianne Bootland, Head of Sales, Applecross said: “The Cedars is a unique development which again raises the bar in terms of the quality and specification it offers. Applecross has subtly taken the best features from previous developments and carried these changes forward to The Cedars. The result is a development which has all the ingredients to capture the hearts and minds of house hunters. It has a classic looking exterior combined with a contemporary interior of high specification within a superb setting. We expect it to be particularly popular with downsizers from the local area.”
